Mobile app to track the storeroom activities of popular MRO service provider

Our client is a pioneer in Maintenance, Repair & Operations (MRO) integrated supply chain solutions. They were using applications developed in Windows CE to manage their MRO activities.

The application was exposed as an internet solution for their storeroom users. We developed a set of mobile applications to track their storeroom activities and replace their outdated Windows CE applications.

Business Challenge

  • In defining the requirements, we understood that a store user should be able to download a set of items from an inventory. Once the items were downloaded to the mobile device, the items were to be locked in the backend, so that same set of items couldn’t be downloaded by other users or devices.
  • The app was to have offline sync capabilities for when the connection to backend services was unavailable. The item count was to be temporarily stored as part of the device’s local storage and synced to the backend whenever the connection was restored. The application also had to allow users to search for items in inventory using a barcode.

How Avasoft Helped?

  • AVASOFT designed and implemented the application addressing all business challenges. The application had effective usage of the persistent storage on the client-side using IBM JSONStore. We were also responsible for deployment of completed applications to an IBM MobileFirst console. This involved creating, building and deploying an app-specific IBM project adapter to every storeroom application.
  • One other critical challenge was the custom hardware scanner feature that would read item barcodes and process search requests. For this, we had to collaborate with hardware vendors to develop a custom API that was then included in every application developed and converted to support cross platform use. Additionally, as a backup feature we developed the ability for the device camera to read the barcode as an image. We managed all the UAT and Production deployments of back-end services and mobile applications.
